A World of Fun & Learning--1st Grade Edition is a new CD-ROM collection from Humongous Entertainment. It introduces youngsters to a world of exploration, discovery and fun. It combines lovable characters and engaging activities that enable children to further develop reading comprehension, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The 1st Grade Edition includes two complete software products: Freddi Fish 2: The Case of the Haunted Schoolhouse and Big Thinkers! 1st Grade. There is also a Freddi Fish Notebook that features learning exercises, collectible stickers and cheerful coloring pages. Another collection in this series is a World of Fun & Learning Kindergarten Edition (see our review of the Kindergarten Edition). Installation--No installation is required. Just load the CD into the CD-ROM drive and click the Play button to start the game. There is no User Guide but there are thorough notes in the Readme files on the CDs and some on the CD cover booklets. Freddi Fish 2: The Case of the Haunted Schoolhouse--There is something amiss in the schoolhouse--toys are missing and a ghost is to blame. Kids direct Freddi to solve the mystery. Big Thinkers! 1st Grade--Introduces kids to curriculum-based 1st grade skills that include addition and subtraction, nouns and verbs, phonics, fractions, telling time and much more. Freddi Fish Notebook--The Freddi Fish activity notebook features challenging puzzles, learning exercises, fun coloring and collectible stickers. A World of Fun & Learning--1st Grade Edition is an excellent choice. You get 2 games for the price of one. Even though the games are earlier release the quality is good, and they work on older machines. Humongous Entertainment products for children are some of the best on the market. They are entertaining and fun, but they also have educational merit for parents that want some learning value in their children's software. The characters are lovable and the animation and music will please both adults and children. Our two helpers Natalie, age 5, and Morgan, age 7, really enjoy these programs.
